Ultrasound screening is a diagnostic method that helps gynecologists identify, diagnose, and assess the integrity of the female internal organs (uterus, ovaries, and adnexa).
During a gynecological consultation, a specialist performs an ultrasound scan, analyzing the shape, position, size, and endometrial cavity of the uterus. Ultrasound screening also allows the size, shape, and characteristics of the ovaries to be visualized, allowing them to determine if there are any abnormalities.
Ultrasound can be performed at any time in a patient's life, when we suspect an anatomical abnormality, such as ovarian cysts, polyps, or fibroids, or simply as a routine checkup to ensure everything is okay.

Types of Gynecological Ultrasound
There are two types of gynecological ultrasounds:
Endovaginal or vaginal ultrasound, which is performed vaginally with a cavity transducer, is the best method for more accurately visualizing the uterus, ovaries, and adnexa.
Endovaginal ultrasound is performed with the patient lying down; endovaginal ultrasound is performed in the gynecological position, allowing us to insert the transducer into the vaginal cavity and thus visualize the internal structures.
Pelvic or abdominal ultrasound, which is performed through the abdomen (it is less invasive). As gynecologists, we use it for young patients, adolescents, or girls to visualize the pelvic organs.
When performing this ultrasound, the patient must have a full bladder (not having urinated but with the urge to urinate) so that we can use it as a window to view the uterus and ovaries.
What are the benefits of having an ultrasound?
The benefits of ultrasound screening include screening, diagnosing abnormalities in internal structures, identifying the cause of abnormal uterine bleeding, and identifying the presence of ovarian or salpingectomy cysts in cases of persistent pelvic pain. Ultrasound is also performed during prenatal visits to monitor, record, and monitor the progress of the procedure.
